INTRODUCTION
Rooster Teeth is a pioneering entertainment and media company responsible for some of the biggest online series in history. They have a global community with more than 45 million engaged and dedicated viewers and some of the coolest merch around.
MY ROLE
As senior designer I worked on various projects from start to finish, but one project in particular that I really enjoyed was creating the RTTV live streaming service.
THE CHALLENGE
Further motivate free members to commit to a paid subscription by creating a feature that allows them to watch their favorite shows in real time.

THE PROBLEM
There were a lot of moving components that had to integrate seamlessly in order for this feature to be accomplished.
The homepage needed to contain ways to differentiate between: when actual live events are playing and when it’s a livestream TV channel, and when the upcoming live events are for paid members or when it’s a one off free episode (like for RTX - Rooster Teeth’s comic con).
The major concern surrounding the schedule was how much information we would be able to display for each episode that Miyagi would allow.
THE SOLUTION

HOMEPAGE
The livestream TV channels are: RTTV, FHTV, and AHTV; all of which have differing thumbnails compared to their live events.
When it’s a FIRST Member (Rooster Teeth’s paid subscription) event, the thumbnail has the FIRST Member star icon in the top right corner, when it’s a free event the icon isn’t there.

When a livestream TV channel is playing, there is a gray box and glow around the thumbnail image, but when it’s an actual live event the box and glow turn yellow while also displaying the “now playing” icon.

SCHEDULE
The live streaming page needed to have a schedule that displayed: upcoming episode information (start time, thumbnail, series/episode name, and episode description), ways to show when an episode is a live event, and include the content creator’s branding colors.

The branding colors were used as dots on the timeline and a top border above the episode’s information. When an episode is a live event, it has the same yellow box and glow from the homepage, plus the “live” icon.
